We had a full crowd and plenty of good food at Saturday's Knit-In. There were 5 dishes tied for 3rd place and therefore the winner was made by a draw. Thanks to everyone who joined us for a relaxing, fun night of fiber fellowship!

Due to threatening weather, it was the smallest Knit-In in several years but we still had over 20 people, good food, and a great time! 

I love the crochet bolero. Well, I love the crochet hat also. Shoot - there are so many patterns that deciding which one to stitch is going to take longer than the actually stitching! 

Another new spring yarn from SMC is Cotton Bamboo Batik. Cotton Bamboo Batik is a 50% cotton/50% bamboo, dk weight yarn. I love how this yarn feels and knits or crochets in a batik fashion. We’ve been seeing several lovely Spectra Wraps at the shop and everyone says they are a lot of fun to knit. Many have bought the pattern and yarn so Judy decided it would be fun to have a KAL. I told Judy that sounded great and since it was her idea she was in charge!

So…pinkjudith will be hosting a KAL for Spectra at the shop starting April 4th at 1pm-? (Wednesday afternoons) Remember this is not a class but it’s a great time to work through a pattern together. You do not have to be at the store to knit along with us. You can join us on Ravelry or Facebook.

I’m thinking a little party when we’re finished (like we did for the clapotis) would be fun.

I always thought lye was dangerous but I discovered that lye is used in the making of all soaps. During the process of changing the oils into soaps, all of the lye is used up in the finished product and natural glycerin is created. Most commercial manufacturers remove much of the glycerin but Grandma's Lye Soap retains all the natural glycerin. You don't have to take our word for it - try it yourself! We received a shipment of Malabrigo Rasta and Rios plus their new limited yarn, Finito. 

Finito is spun from the finest merino wool in Uruguay and is an incredibly soft fingering weight 2-ply yarn, perfect for lacework, delicate accessories, and luxurious garments. This exclusive merino is even softer than Malabrigo's usual wool and is available only in very small quantities once a year. Another new yarn by Juniper Moon Farm is Yearling. Yearling is a chunky 60% merino wool and 40% cotton yarn with 109 yards per hank and retails for $14. There's a great accompany pattern book that includes patterns for both adults, babies and children.  One of the patterns in the book is this adorable poncho:

Jane, aka happylady, recently knitted Wingspan, a free pattern on Ravelry. What a rhythmic fun pattern for beginner or advanced knitters. Wingspan has the look of doing wraps and turns but does not incorporate any. The pattern uses the knit stitch and the slip stitch to create the short rows and the 'wings' of the shawl. Jane knitted her Wingspan out of Noro Silk Garden Sock (only two skeins!) but any self-striping fingering-weight yarn would work.  Jane has graciously loaned her sample to the store to be on display so you can see in person how beautiful this shawl is! I'm thinking this would be a great project for those evenings when I want to knit to relax but don't have the energy to concentrate on anything elaborate. Thanks, Jane, for sharing!

One of our new yarns from Juniper Moon Farm is Sabine.  Sabine is composed of 30% royal llama, 30% merino wool and 40% cotton. The yarn feels so has a soft tweedy-look and feel. There is a pattern book that accompanies this yarn plus Juniper Moon Farm has some free patterns on their website including this cute Kiri hat. Each 100gram hanks contains 218 yards and retails for $18.

Shirley's choice was the Paris Lunch Tote. The Paris Lunch Tote is an insulated bag with a zippered top and measures 13x8 inches. That's big enough for a large water bottle and lunch! Retails for $17.50.

Another great lunch tote is the Aspen Lunch Tote that has the same features as the Paris Lunch Tote and measures 8.5x10. and retails for $17.50

The San Francisco Tote is a roomy 13x4x14 inch tote that has 3 roomy pockets on the inside. Retails for $17.50.

One of my favorites is the Southhampton Tote. It measures 13x5x10.5 inches, has expandable snaps on each side, 3 roomy inside pockets plus a zippered pocket. Retails for $19.50.

The Malibu bag is the largest at 13.5x7x15.5 and has pockets on the inside and outside. Each bag retails for $22.00.

These tablet covers not only function as a stand but they are very attractive and reasonably priced! Each cover retails at $25.

I love knitting with Cascade Ultra Pima Sport so I was excited that they came out with a fingering-weight version.  This yarn will be great for making those summer shawls as an accessory or for a little warmth in air-conditioner places. Fine has a soft sheen and I think the white would be so beautiful for a wedding shawl. 

Each 50gm hank contains 136 yards and retails for $5.26. We received 12 beautiful colors and have some colors on backorder. 

I am having fun using mine - no more collapsed cakes and the slightest tug spins the turntable. 

Now....I think I want her dad to create ones that have 3 separate spindles on a base for Fair Isle knitting.

Recycled Denim Cotton is a new yarn by Lang. It's 100% recycled machine washable cotton in 8 great colors.  Each 50 gm ball contains 114 yards and retails for $8.50.

I think this will be a very popular book so if we want us to hold you a book, be sure to call the shop!  Now...I just need to decide which sweater....

Susan used a Knitting Pure and Simple pattern and Berroco's Borealis yarn. Shirley and I were immediately wanting to pick out a color and start one. The sweater is knitted from the top down so once it's knitted; it's done! Susan learned the tubular bind-off on this sweater and loved the professional finished look.  

Anita knitted the Lazy Katy shawl using Crazy Zauberball yarn. Isn't is gorgeous how it stripes up? Love the beautiful lace edging. Great job, Anita!
